3 Steps to Sharing Your Faith in Your Greek Organization
Pray
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. – 2 Chronicles 7:14
The first step to sharing your faith with your brothers or sisters is to realize you have no real power to change their hearts and minds, only God can do that. However, He tells us over and over again in his word to “humble ourselves, and pray and seek his face”. When we realize that God alone can transform someone from death unto life, we will both be humbled and moved to pray for those we care deeply for. This is the first step to seeing God move in your Greek organization, praying constantly for them to seek and know Christ. Find a place and a time and make it a priority. God has promised He will hear our prayers and heal our land, but only if we pray. The solution is not to work harder, but to pray more.
Confess your own sin
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. - James 5:16
You are just as broken as they are. Until you believe that and admit it to yourself and friends, you will not be effective in ministering to them. Non-Christians already think Christians are hypocrites, and they are right! We are hypocrites! We believe Christ is better than the world, and that we should be set apart, but each day we look just like the world in our words and deeds. Our friends know this about us, but when we confess it to others, they see that we take our sins seriously and that we want to be different. They aren’t intimidated by us or see us as putting on a front to look like we are perfect. They get the real us and see our real intentions - to walk with Christ through our brokenness, in spite of failures. When you start confessing sin, it’s amazing how it will draw people to you, because what our friends want more than anything is authenticity.
Show up and be bold
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” – Matthew 9:36-38
Finally, the third step is simply to be available. The number one way people know you care about them is if you show up when others don’t. Just as Christ had compassion on the crowds, we must have compassion on our friends. They will make lots of mistakes, feel lonely, and go through lots of hard things. The most powerful way to show them the love of Christ is to be there when those things happen. People remember who was there for them in those times, and when hard times come and they realize what they’re worth and trust in is starts to fail them, you have the answer they need so desperately so give it to them. Be bold. What you have to offer is a relationship with the Creator of the Universe who loved his people so much that he came down into his creation, gave his life for it, and took on the cost of the sins all those who would trust and follow him. Take it from an atheist, “How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?” What you have is of infinite value so go share the Gospel with the people you value so much.
