To Change The World

Every generation has the same task before them. This task is only heightened throughout your college. Organizations, classes, teachers, internships, friends, and parents are all asking the same thing from you: what will you do to change the world?

Winning the Ultimate Championship

Last week, the San Francisco Giants won the World Series by defeating the Kansas City Royals in 7 games. Winning just one major sports championship is an incredible accomplishment, but the Giants have won 3 of the last 5 championships! As a kid, you grow up with many dreams and aspirations (mine was to play in the NBA; I grew up, and was only 5’11” tall, with a 25” vertical jump, and that wasn’t going to get me very far). A lot of us had big dreams of winning championships or titles or pageants.

But here’s the question you never asked as a kid: what happens after you win?

If Usher Bought You a House...

If any of you are familiar with the Bible at all, you have probably come across Ephesians 2:8  which says,

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.

Maybe you are familiar with this concept, even if this verse is unfamiliar.. Maybe you understand that we have done nothing to deserve what God has done for us in Christ.  But what about life after we have believed?

Jesus Is Better than More

I got married last Saturday. If that weren’t enough, I turned 24 last Wednesday. Suffering 101: What's Missing from Your College Education

Flip on the tube, tune in to a talk radio station, or do a quick search on the Internet and you’ll be flooded by news stories that all have pretty much the same headline: “Injustice, Persecution, and Murder Happened, More to Come”. Dig a little deeper and you’ll learn about dozens of current tragedies with more detail than what my 15 minutes of news consumption in the morning could inform you, but here’s the bottom line: our world is full of suffering. But as a college student it can often seem as if you are detached from this big scary world, in a sort of bubble between the parentheses of fun and freedom.

So, what does this have to do with your college experience?

The Freedom of College Life

Five years ago I stepped on the college campus with big plans, big goals, and big dreams. The culture of college seems to do that; you start out thinking the whole world is yours for the taking. Why wouldn’t it be?

The Weapon of Rest

Artist Josh Garrels wrote a song called “The Resistance.” In this song Josh says: “My rest is a weapon against the oppression of man’s obsession to control things." Over the last few months, I have experienced an extended season of rest and reflection. This lyric has proven to be a great summary of my time.  Here is how this lyric as impacted me:
